Train companies respond to Government consultation on franchising
22/07/2010In response to the publication of the Government’s consultation on rail franchising, Michael Roberts, Chief Executive of the Association of Train Operating Companies said:
“The Government is absolutely right to point out that franchising has become too prescriptive and limits operational flexibility at the expense of passengers and taxpayers.
“On the right terms, longer and more flexible franchises, with clear commitments on service quality, would allow train operators to deliver improvements more quickly, help drive down costs and open the door to more private sector investment.
“We welcome this consultation, which sets out many positive ideas for future franchises. There are many details to be considered in full and we look forward to responding to the paper in due course.”
