Report shows rail travel becoming even safer
02/07/2010In response to the publication this morning of RSSB’s Annual Safety Performance Report, Alec McTavish, Director of Policy and Operations at the Association of Train Operating Companies, said:
“Safety for passengers and staff is the highest priority for train companies and the whole of the rail industry, so it is very encouraging that RSSB has found rail travel continues to become even safer.
“Train companies and their partners work tirelessly to improve safety for everyone using the railways, and are satisfied to see that a number of key measures of rail safety are at record levels. It is testament to the hard work of all staff that last year, for the fourth time in five years, there were no passenger or workforce deaths in train accidents.
“However, train companies are not complacent and will continue to put all their efforts into ensuring that stations and trains are as safe as they possibly can be for passengers and staff.”
