'Rail industry is committed to making sure as many trains run on time as possible' - ATOC

07/12/2011

Responding to the ORR’s findings in its latest Network Rail monitor report, Michael Roberts, Chief Executive of the Association of Train Operating Companies, said: “Train companies know how important it is to passengers that trains run on time, and a huge amount of effort has gone into raising overall levels of punctuality and reliability in recent years. But complacency is not an option and we will continue to work hard with Network Rail to ensure that punctuality returns to the record levels that passengers expect and deserve.

“Operators and Network Rail have worked closely to ensure that the vast majority of people travelling by train over the Christmas and New Year period should experience no disruption because of planned improvement works. Figures from Network Rail and ATOC show that there will be half the number of replacement buses this year compared with the last Christmas period, and around 54,000 more trains will be running this year than last - an increase of 35%. The industry’s efforts will focus on keeping people on trains as much as possible.”
