Figures about bugs on trains were 'Wrong and Misleading'

15/03/2010

In response to Rentokil’s apology for using ‘wrong and misleading’ figures suggesting that an average train has up to 1,000 cockroaches in it, an ATOC spokesperson said:

“We’re glad that Rentokil has publicly apologised for wrong and misleading information suggesting that an average train carriage has up to 1,000 cockroaches in it. Discouraging people from travelling on trains by incorrectly suggesting that they are infested with cockroaches and fleas is in no-one’s interest.

“As Rentokil says in its statement, standards in the UK are very high and it is very rare to find heavily infested trains. This is largely thanks to the rigorous and thorough cleaning that train companies carry out on a regular basis to make sure that services live up to the expectations that passengers expect.

“At the time that the press release was issued, we said that no-one at ATOC had ever seen a cockroach on a train.”
