Around half a million passengers expected to take the train to London to celebrate the Jubilee

30/05/2012

Around half a million people are expected to travel to London by train to take part in the Jubilee celebrations, according to the Association of Train Operating Companies.

To help mark the occasion and get the nation into the Jubilee spirit, train companies have teamed up with a leading designer to produce a range of ‘royal train’ memorabilia.

Based on the iconic rail ticket design in ‘royal’ purple and with a start date of ‘06 FBY 1952’, the homeware range includes cups, cushions , tea towels and bags each featuring a series of royal themed journeys.

Jubilee-goers can plan their train journeys to and from the celebrations and find all the latest rail travel information by visiting nationalrail.co.uk.

Edward Welsh, from ATOC said:
“We’re expecting people from all over the country to travel by train to London to be part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. That’s why train companies will be doing their bit and working hard to get everyone to and from the capital quickly, easily and in comfort so that they can enjoy and be part of the royal festivities."

Notes to editors
- The special National Rail royal themed products are available to buy online from www.ashley-allen.co.uk. The range features tea towels (£12), Tote bags (£15), Bone China cup sets (£40 per pair) and cushions (£45).

- The range of items is based on the familiar National Rail ticket design produced in a special royal purple. ‘Type of ticket’ features a small crown and the ‘start date’ is ’06 FBY 1952’, the day that Elizabeth became Queen. The ticket number is the number of days the Queen has been on the throne, and the price is the year.

Aberdeen to Balmoral
Edinburgh Waverley to Holyrood Palace
London Victoria to Buckingham Palace
King's Lynn to Sandringham, and
Queen's Park (London) to Queen's Park (Glasgow).
