ATOC Public Affairs

The Public Affairs team works to influence key individuals and organisations on behalf of train operators. This falls into two main sections – lobbying government and political parties, and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders in the rail sector and more widely.

  • Train operators are subject to a considerable framework of policy, legislation and regulation, and so ATOC maintains high-level relationships with ministers, government bodies and the main political parties. This is vital in:

- influencing future government and party policy
- addressing urgent and emerging issues
- keeping Ministers and MPs up to date with what train operators are doing

  • We manage ATOC’s relationships with key passenger rail stakeholders, ensuring regular contact with Network Rail, the Office of the Rail Regulator and the Department for Transport, and other key rail-interested organisations, such as Passenger Focus and Transport for London.
  • We also maintain strong links with the business community, as a member of the CBI, and with contacts on key issues such as the environment, access for disabled people and linking rail with other forms of transport.
